SEOUL, December 29 (AJP) - The crash of a Jeju Air aircraft on Sunday marks one of South Korea's worst aviation accidents on record.

With most of the 181 people aboard feared dead, except for two rescued survivors, the incident involving the Boeing 737-800 jet at Muan International Airport could become the third-deadliest tragedy in South Korean aviation history, following the 1983 incident where a Korean Air Boeing 747 was shot down by Soviet fighters over the East Sea, killing all 269 people aboard, and the 1997 Korean Air crash in Guam that claimed 225 lives.

Other major aviation disasters include:
-November 1987: Korean Air Boeing 707 exploded over the Andaman Sea after a bombing by North Korean agents, killing all 115 aboard.
-July 1989: A Korean Air DC-10 crashed in Libya, killing 80 and injuring 139.
-July 1993: An Asiana Airlines Boeing 737 crashed into a mountain in the southern county of Haenam, killing 66 and injuring 44.
-July 2013: An Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 crashed at San Francisco International Airport, killing two and injuring 181.
