Hyundai E&C announced Wednesday it is conducting a pilot operation of an autonomous robot delivery service at an apartment complex in Goyang, west of Seoul, in partnership with robotics startup Mobinn.
The robots deliver items from a logistics center in the community facility directly to residents' doorsteps.
They can navigate stairs and obstacles using a specially developed rubber wheel structure and feature a cargo compartment leveling function to protect delivered items.
Residents can place orders and make payments online.
Hyundai E&C plans to continue the outdoor pilot operation until November. Depending on the results, it will work on advancing the technology and commercializing the service to expand the delivery range.
Meanwhile, Samsung C&T's construction division has been operating its "Deli-Pick Me" robot delivery service at apartment complexes in southern Seoul since June, in collaboration with autonomous robot company NeuBility.
The service connects residents with nearby commercial areas, delivering food and beverages from local shops.
