SEOUL, Sept. 9 (AJP) -- More than one in five South Korean workers have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace, according to a survey released Sunday.

The poll also found that 15 percent of respondents reported incidents of sexual assault or rape at work.

The civic group Gapjil 119 surveyed 1,000 workers nationwide between May 31 and June 10.

Among the key findings, 22.6 percent of respondents reported experiencing workplace sexual harassment, with women (26.1 percent) more likely than men (19.1 percent) to be victims.

The survey also showed that 15.1 percent of respondents said they had suffered sexual assault or rape at work, with higher rates among women (19.7 percent) and non-regular workers (20.8 percent) compared to men (10.6 percent) and regular workers (11.3 percent).

Gapjil 119 also reported 10.6 percent of respondents experienced workplace stalking.

Reported sexual abuse incidents have increased compared to those in a similar poll conducted in August 2023.

The number of respondents who said they experienced sexual harassment within the past year rose from 14.2 percent to 20.8 percent, while the figure for sexual assault and rape cases increased from 13.8 percent to 20.8 percent.
