SEOUL, August 06 (AJU PRESS) - An American woman found with her feet shackled to a tree in a jungle in India has informed the police that she chained herself and that no one else was involved in the incident, ETV Bharat reported on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old was discovered on July 27 in a forest near Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra by a shepherd.

The American woman told the Sindhudurg police on Saturday that she had brought three locks and iron chains with her and used one set to tie herself to a tree in the forest, according to ETV Bharat.

Initially, after being rescued, the police found a note in her bag in which she claimed that her "former husband" had tied her to the tree. This led the police to file an attempt to murder case against her former husband, even though he was not named in the note, and they began searching for him based on that information.

ETV Bharat reported that the police recorded her statement, revealing that she does not actually have a husband. They also discovered that her mother lives in the U.S., but no family members have yet reached out to them.

The police also found a set of keys a few meters from the scene, which had been used to lock the iron chain. The exact duration for which she was bound to the tree remains unclear.

The woman is currently receiving psychiatric treatment at a hospital in Ratnagiri, and it has been reported that she is experiencing hallucinations.
