SEOUL, July 9 (AJU PRESS) - Samsung Electronics on Tuesday unveiled strategies to enhance its capabilities for manufacturing artificial intelligence chips and support the local semiconductor industry ecosystem.

The world’s largest producer of memory chips held its annual Samsung Foundry Forum and Samsung Advanced Foundry Ecosystem (SAFE) Forum at COEX in Seoul. The events focused on its foundry process technology, manufacturing competitiveness and ecosystem enhancement measures.

In a keynote speech, Choi Si-young, president of foundry division, emphasized the company's support for domestic fabless customers through advanced and specialty process technologies.

“We will provide the most necessary AI solutions to our customers by integrating specialty offerings like BCD that improve AI power efficiency, and high-sensitivity sensor technology that enhances the accuracy of edge devices,” he said.

The BCD process, which combines the strengths of three different process technologies -- bipolar, CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor), and DMOS (double-diffused metal-oxide semiconductor) -- on one chip, is commonly used in the production of power semiconductors.

The company announced a collaboration with domestic design solution provider (DSP) Gaonchips to manufacture Preferred Networks' 2nm-based AI accelerator chip using advanced 2.5D packaging technology.

Samsung highlighted its turn-key service for integrated AI solutions, leveraging its comprehensive semiconductor capabilities. The company is strengthening its advanced process services based on gate-all-around (GAA) technology and 2.5D packaging for low-power, high-performance AI semiconductors.

To support domestic fabless companies, Samsung is expanding its multi-project wafer (MPW) service, with plans to increase the number of runs to 35 by 2025. The company is also enhancing technical support for customers to utilize the latest process technologies.

Thirty-five of Samsung’s partner companies also exhibited solutions supporting Samsung's foundry customers.

Three Korean fabless firms - Telechips, Above and Rebellions - shared their successful collaborations with Samsung Foundry during the forum.

Samsung plans to host similar events in Japan and Europe later this year, following its Silicon Valley forum last month.
