The Pinkfong Company, the creator of Baby Shark, said in a statement that the movie titled "Baby Shark's Big Movie" will be released through Paramount Plus, the media-streaming division of ViacomCBS, in 2023. The content is co-produced by Pinkfong and the operator of Nickelodeon, a U.S.-based children's entertainment channel. ENHYPEN will appear as a popular K-pop band in the content, which depicts the story of Baby Shark's experience while moving to a new city.
The animation was directed by Alan Foreman, a producer well known for the 2017 animation film "Welcome to the Wayne." Two American actresses -- Ego Nwodim, and Chloe Fineman -- also took part in the project.
ENHYPEN was formed by a joint venture between Hybe and CJ ENM, an entertainment group that produced the Oscar-winning 2020 film "Parasite." Its album "MANIFESTO: DAY 1," released in July 2022, was ranked sixth on Billboard's 200 Chart, a weekly chart ranking the 200 most popular albums in the U.S., about a month later. The group, which debuted in 2020 through a TV reality show program called "I-LAND," now has more than 12 million Instagram followers.
Pinkfong has gained global popularity through its Baby Shark content. Baby Shark portrays a story about a family of great white sharks with colorful visuals and a catchy melody. The "Baby Shark Dance" video uploaded in 2016 garnered more than 12 billion views on YouTube. As of November 2022, the Baby Shark song was streamed more than 200 million times on the UK Singles Chart, beating Despacito, a popular song released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi.
