SEOUL, February 13 (AJP) - South Korean snowboarder Kim Geon-hui on Thursday won the men's halfpipe event at this year's Winter Asian Games currently underway in Harbin, China.

The teen snowboarder, who had finished first with a score of 78 points in the qualifying round earlier this week, secured gold after the final round scheduled for Thursday was canceled due to strong gusts at a ski resort located about 200 kilometers southeast of Harbin.

His compatriot Lee Jio, who finished third in the qualifying round, earned bronze.

The halfpipe is a discipline in which athletes perform aerial tricks by riding up and down a half-cylinder-shaped, sloped ramp, and it is considered one of the most iconic freestyle disciplines in snowboarding.

With the quadrennial event wrapping up on Friday, South Korea remains second in the overall gold-medal count with 13 gold, 14 silver, and 13 bronze medals, trailing behind host country China, which has secured 32 gold, 26 silver, and 23 bronze medals.
