South Korea adds more gold medals at Harbin Asian Winter Games

SEOUL, February 9 (AJP) - South Korea added more gold medals in speed skating and short-track speed skating on Sunday at the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, which kicked off on Friday.

Short-track speed skater Choi Min-jeong finished first in the women's 1,000-m, while her compatriot Kim Gil-li won silver. With her gold-medal victories in the mixed 2,000-m relay and the women's 500-m race the previous day, Choi became the triple gold medalist of this year's quadrennial event.

In the men's 1,000-m, South Korea also swept the race, with Jang Sung-woo and Park Ji-won taking the top two spots.

Speed skaters Kim Min-jee, Kim Min-sun and Lee Na-hyun secured gold and silver in the women's 500-m race. They also claimed victory in the team sprint with a time of 1:28.62, just ahead of the Chinese trio, who recorded 1:28.85.

With four additional gold medals on the second day of the medal race, after earning seven gold medals the previous day, South Korea remains second in the overall gold-medal count with a total of eleven gold, nine silver, and seven bronze medals, trailing behind host country China, which claimed 15 gold, 15 silver, and 14 bronze medals.
