SEOUL, February 03 (AJP) - Samsung Electronics will begin supplying improved versions of its HBM3E products to major customers by the end of the first quarter 2025, with volume production ramping up in the second quarter.

The company reported last week that its fourth-quarter 2024 HBM sales grew 1.9 times compared to the previous quarter, slightly below initial projections due to geopolitical issues and preparation for the enhanced HBM3E launch.

"We expanded HBM3E supply to multiple GPU providers and data center customers in the fourth quarter, with HBM3E sales surpassing HBM3," Samsung said during its earnings conference call. The company has been producing 8-layer and 12-layer HBM3E products since the third quarter of 2024.

Samsung has already delivered 16-layer HBM3E samples to key customers for technology verification, though it doesn't expect commercial demand for this version. The company aims to double its total HBM bit supply in 2025 compared to the previous year.
