Netflix to release final season of 'Squid Game' in June

SEOUL, January 31 (AJP) - Netflix's megahit South Korean series "Squid Game" will come to an end with its third and final season in June, the global streaming giant said on Thursday.

Netflix teased the dystopian thriller's upcoming season with a promotional poster, hinting at new competitors entangled in another ruthless contest along with the show's main characters including the enigmatic "Front Man."

Scheduled for release on June 27, the final season, consisting of seven episodes, is expected to continue the story from the previous installments.

Netflix also revealed that the series' second season, released in December last year, garnered 165.7 million views in just about a week.

Released in September 2021, the first season of "Squid Game" broke multiple Netflix records, accumulating 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first 28 days. It topped the platform's charts in 94 countries and remained at the top for a record-breaking 106 consecutive days, with total viewing hours now exceeding 2.3 billion.

The series also made history the following year as the first non-English language show to win six Emmy Awards.
