SEOUL, January 23 (AJP) - Two Korean Americans will take key roles under the new U.S. administration following the inauguration of Donald Trump earlier this week.

The Pentagon said on Tuesday John Noh has been named deputy assistant defense secretary for East Asia in the U.S. Department of Defense. Noh will oversee policies related to South Korea, Japan, and other regional allies. His responsibilities include developing security and defense strategies for East Asia, strengthening bilateral and multilateral defense relationships, and enhancing interagency.

Noh is expected to work closely with South Korea and Japan to bolster defense ties and address regional security challenges, including North Korea's nuclear program.

A graduate of Stanford Law School, the Korean-American official previously served as deputy general counsel for the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, worked as a federal prosecutor, and served in the U.S. Army.

At the Department of State's Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Kevin Kim recently assumed the position of deputy assistant secretary.

Kim served as chief of staff to the special representative for North Korea from 2018 to 2020 during the first Trump administration. During that time, he played a key role in U.S.' negotiations with North Korea including their summits, collaborating with Stephen Biegun, the then-special representative for North Korea policy.
