SEOUL, January 15 (AJP) - Hyundai Engineering & Construction will become the first South Korean construction company to commercialize autonomous door-to-door delivery robots, a system designed to handle packages, food delivery, and even security patrols in residential complexes.

The company said Wednesday its integrated indoor-outdoor autonomous delivery service, developed in collaboration with Mobinn, a robot startup affiliated with Hyundai Motor Group, will debut at a high-end apartment complex in southern Seoul.

According to Hyundai E&C, the robots will autonomously navigate entire delivery routes, from roads to underground parking lots, shared entryways, elevators, and finally to individual apartment doors.

Hyundai previously piloted the technology at a townhouse complex in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. Earlier this year, the company partnered with Hyundai Elevator to further enhance the technology, enabling full-scale commercialization.

The system boasts advanced features, including the ability to summon and re-summon elevators, assess weight capacity limits, and make real-time decisions in various scenarios.

In addition to delivery capabilities, the autonomous robots are equipped for security patrols. They feature specialized rubber wheels for climbing stairs, mechanisms to maintain horizontal balance for fragile deliveries, and 3D LiDAR technology to map their surroundings.

Cameras enhance the robots’ ability to recognize objects and adjust to complex environments, while a patrol mode ensures productivity during downtime.
