SEOUL, January 10 (AJP) - LG Energy Solution announced Friday it will supply cylindrical batteries to U.S.-based solar electric vehicle startup Aptera Motors.

Under the agreement, LG Energy Solution, alongside Korean battery pack manufacturer CTNS, will provide 2170 cylindrical batteries to Aptera from 2025 to 2031. The partnership also includes collaboration on producing solar EVs.

Aptera's solar EV, also named Aptera, integrates solar panels and battery packs, maximizing driving range. The vehicle successfully completed test runs last year and has garnered over 50,000 pre-orders. It is slated for a U.S. market launch this year.

The Aptera boasts an impressive range of up to 643 kilometers (399.5 miles) on a single charge. Its solar panels can independently generate enough energy for 64 kilometers of daily driving.

With its futuristic design minimizing air resistance, the Aptera is considered a flagship vehicle for next-generation mobility. It has even made a cameo in Netflix's sci-fi action thriller "Atlas."

"This partnership with Aptera underscores our commitment to supporting the realization of solar-powered transportation while delivering advanced battery technology," said Glen Choi, head of the marketing department at LG Energy Solution.

"This partnership marks a significant milestone in bringing our solar electric vehicles to market with the reliability and performance our customers expect," said Chris Anthony, co-CEO of Aptera Motors.
