LAS VEGAS, January 9 (AJP) - Chung Suk-hyun, chairman of Soosan Group, a South Korean nuclear power equipment manufacturer, has vowed to strengthen the company's global market presence through the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative approaches.

Speaking to Aju Business Daily at the CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Chung, a recipient of the inaugural Aju Innovation Leader Grand Awards, emphasized the need for pioneering technologies to compete on the global stage.

"Korea's economic ascent was built on catching up with others," Chung said. "Now, we must develop leading-edge technologies to guide global innovation. We must fearlessly explore uncharted territories and products."

Soosan Group, one of only four companies worldwide with the capability to design Man-Machine Interface Systems (MMIS) for nuclear power plants, has achieved 100 percent self-reliance in nuclear power plant design.

Currently, Soosan Heavy Industries, a subsidiary of the group, is conducting maintenance work on turbine generators at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates.

The company is also collaborating with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power on the Dukovany nuclear power plant construction project in the Czech Republic.

"For the past decade, we've sent around 10 R&D employees to CES to gain insights into cutting-edge technologies and emerging trends," Chung said. "We are leveraging AI in nuclear power plant design and maintenance to enhance efficiency and safety in the global market."

Soosan aims to gain a competitive edge through innovative technology and differentiated products. "Mid-sized companies must offer unique technology and differentiated products to survive and thrive in the global market," Chung said.

The company plans to continue its innovation-driven growth by focusing on technology development, talent cultivation, and global market expansion.

"We need to foster a management environment that encourages risk-taking and embraces new challenges," Chung said.
