LAS VEGAS, January 8 (AJP) - SK hynix's development of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips is now advancing faster than Nvidia's requirements, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said.
He made the remark on Wednesday after meeting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during CES in Las Vegas.
"Previously, SK hynix's development pace lagged slightly behind Nvidia's, and they were asking us to speed up our development. But recently, it could be said that our development speed slightly exceeds Nvidia('s requests)," he told reporters.
SK hynix is Nvidia's primary supplier of HBM.
Earlier that day, Chey and Huang discussed the potential for collaboration on physical AI projects, such as autonomous vehicles, leveraging SK hynix's manufacturing strengths.
Chey expressed enthusiasm for exploring joint ventures under the Cosmos initiative, which focuses on developing AI systems with physical embodiments.
Regarding Huang's recent comments about being unaware of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix as graphics memory manufacturers, Chey downplayed the significance.
"It's not a big issue," he said. "As CEO of Nvidia, Huang's primary focus is on creating optimal computing solutions, not necessarily on the specific companies providing the components."
