SEOUL, January 02 (AJP) - Funerals for the victims of a plane crash in southwestern South Korea are underway, as all the victims' bodies were identified on Wednesday.

The first funeral for a victim was held in Gwangju on Thursday, nearly a week after the fatal crash of a Jeju Air flight at Muan International Airport which claimed 179 lives last Sunday.

So far, the bodies and other remains of about 20 victims have been handed over to their bereaved families, with funeral arrangements in progress for nine of them.

Authorities are also considering a joint funeral service for those who wish to wait until additional remains of the victims are found, with decisions left up to the families' wishes.

Meanwhile, the plane's black box, which contains both a cockpit voice recorder and a flight data recorder, will be sent to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for analysis by aviation experts in Washington, D.C., as it was partially damaged and could not be fully recovered here.

But the cockpit voice recorder, which could provide clues about the final moments of the deadly crash, has been recovered and is currently being analyzed, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.

Police also raided the airport later in the day to gather evidence in order to determine the cause of the tragedy.
