SEOUL, December 20 (AJP) - Artificial Intelligence will become the killer application for XR (extended reality) devices, with Google's Gemini AI model expected to be the cornerstone of its upcoming Android XR operating system, according to a Counterpoint Research note published on Friday.

Google recently unveiled Android XR alongside Samsung's "Project Moohan" device, set for release next year. The platform will enable real-time translation, schedule management, and contextual understanding through conversation, while Google also teased various smart glasses designs.

"The way Google and OEM partners integrate AI into daily life through XR devices will draw attention," said Ritesh Bendre, Counterpoint Research's global content manager. "Users will be able to request AI assistance for environmental awareness, navigation, real-time translation, and schedule management."

Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses currently lead the market, recently updating their AI capabilities to include real-time voice translation between English, Spanish, French, and Italian, along with AI video analysis for object identification and music recognition.

Apple might integrate its Apple Intelligence AI model into Vision Pro, according to DSCC analyst Guillaume Chansin, who noted that "AI will innovate XR device users' experience by creating practical use cases beyond games and virtual screens."
