SEOUL, November 29 (AJP) - "Although news stores have become more accessible and faster through various media platforms, the rise of fake news remains a major challenge," said Alberto Mondi, a popular Italian TV personality here.

Mondi, who gained fame after appearing on hit TV show "Non-Summit," first aired in 2014, where foreign panelists from various nationalities discuss diverse topics, now works for the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ITCCK), playing a vital role in bridging the two countries.

In an exclusive interview with Aju Business Daily last week, about a week before the official launch of its sister English-language news outlet AJP, he expressed his hope that it will uphold truth and accurate reporting in an era swamped by floods of fake news and misinformation.

"I hope that AJP becomes a media outlet that delivers more reliable and trustworthy news stories with accurate, in-depth analysis," he said.

Mondi developed his interest in Asian cultures while studying East Asian studies during his university days. His understanding further deepened after meeting his South Korean wife during an exchange program in China, which sparked his fascination with South Korean culture and society.

He stressed the importance of staying informed about how the world is changing. "I'm keeping up with the latest news, not only about Seoul and Italy but also other global events. I especially enjoy reading columns and opinion pieces, as they offer insights into how experts analyze and interpret complex issues and current events from their critical point of view," he said.

He also pointed out the ongoing changes in news journalism due to the revolutionary emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) which is fundamentally shaping how information is produced and conveyed.

"AI-generated news stories are rapidly becoming predominant, particularly in many sports news stories in Italy, for example. However, feature stories with precise analysis and op-eds are areas where AI can never surpass human expertise and insights, I think," he added.

When asked about his expectations for AJP, which is dedicated to delivering Asia's voice to readers worldwide, he expressed his hope that the Asian news hub will explore diverse viewpoints on South Korea's growing global appeal and its cultural influence.

"With author Han Kang recently winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, global interest in South Korean literature has surged immensely," he said. "Not only contemporary culture and trends including the rising global popularity of South Korean pop culture, but I also hope AJP will cover many of the country's traditional values and rich heritage from diverse perspectives."
