The mercury dropped sharply after the season's first snow hit the country earlier this week, bringing the heaviest November snowfall in about a century.
According to the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA), the morning lows dipped more than five to ten degrees lower than the previous day, with -3.4 degrees Celsius in Seoul, -2.8 degrees in Incheon, -5.2 degrees in Suwon, -7.0 degrees in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, -6.4 degrees in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, -1.1 degrees in Daejeon, 2.4 degrees in Daegu, and 3.9 degrees in Busan.
The lowest morning temperature was -16.3 degrees in Hoengseong, Gangwon Province.
As strong winds continue to blow in some regions throughout the day, daytime highs are expected to range from three degrees to 12 degrees.
"Another snowfall or rain is expected in the afternoon in most areas nationwide," the KMA said. "Temperatures will remain low for the time being."
It forecast that the cold snap will abate gradually from the weekend.
