SEOUL, November 27 (AJP) - A group attempting to smuggle the largest-ever amount of methamphetamine from Myanmar to India was apprehended by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

The ICG discovered a suspicious fishing vessel while conducting an aerial patrol in the Andaman Sea early on Saturday. After the vessel entered Indian waters, the Coast Guard conducted an inspection.

The vessel was carrying six people and about 5,500 kg of methamphetamine was found.

ICG emphasized that this seizure represents the largest amount of methamphetamine ever confiscated by the organization, underscoring its efforts to protect Indian territorial waters. The vessel was then moved to an Indian naval base.

"In a coordinated sea and air operation Indian Coast Guard today made history by apprehending a Myanmarese fishing boat, 'Soe Wai Yan Htoo,' in the Andaman Seas with approximately 5500 kg of Methamphetamine," ICG said on Instagram. "This major drug haul marks the largest maritime seizure in #India’s domain, showcasing exceptional coordination and vigilance."
