German broadcaster n-tv reported that Bernd Lange, chair of the European Parliament's trade committee, as saying that both sides are working toward an agreement.
As of Sunday, neither the European Commission (EC) nor China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) had commented on Lange's remarks.
Zhou Mi, a senior research fellow at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, called the development positive and encouraging, saying that dialogue and consultation are the best ways to resolve trade disputes.
Zhou expressed hope for a balanced resolution that considers the concerns of both sides.
Huo Jianguo, vice chairman of the China Society for World Trade Organization Studies, highlighted the EU's economic pressures as a likely factor in its willingness to reach an agreement. He said avoiding further trade friction is a practical move for the EU, given the potential risks to its economy and trade relations.
