During the visit, Xi met with Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and other senior officials, including Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region Abdellatif Maâzouz and President of the Regional Council. The Chinese president also received honors from the Royal Guard and participated in a traditional Moroccan ceremony featuring milk and dates.
The visit follows Xi's trip to Brazil for the G20 Summit and comes at a time of growing Chinese investment in Morocco, particularly in infrastructure and industrial projects. In June, Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High Tech announced plans to build Africa's first gigafactory in Morocco, a $1.3 billion project.
Morocco's strategic location near Europe and its free trade agreements with the U.S. and EU make it an attractive partner for Chinese businesses, including electric vehicle manufacturers.
The visit builds on a partnership established during King Mohammed VI's 2016 visit to China, aiming to boost cooperation in trade, investment, and cultural exchange. With its growing influence in global politics and economics, China represents a key ally for Morocco in advancing shared economic and strategic goals.
