Chinese vice premier calls for global cooperation to tackle cybersecurity challenges

SEOUL, November 21 (AJP) - Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Wednesday called for international efforts to address challenges such as the digital divide and cybersecurity risks.

The remarks came during his keynote speech at the opening of the 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit in Zhejiang Province, China.

Ding said China's role in sharing modernization opportunities with the world and contributing to global development. He highlighted the transformative impact of emerging technologies like the internet, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and blockchain on economic and social progress.

He added that the digital divide continues to expand, and cybersecurity threats are becoming more severe. He urged the global community to collaborate on building a shared future in cyberspace.

Leaders from Honduras, Zambia, and Vietnam also addressed the conference, which drew over 1,800 participants, including government officials, representatives from international organizations, internet companies, and academics.

After the ceremony, Ding toured an internet-themed exhibition and a museum highlighting advancements in internet technology, engaging with participants.

The 2024 WIC Wuzhen Summit, held in the historic water town of Wuzhen, will conclude on Friday.
