SEOUL, November 20 (AJP) - Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday held a summit on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brazil.

Xi emphasized the strategic importance of China-France relations, saying that both share a responsibility to guide international efforts in addressing global challenges.

Macron recalled Xi's visit to Paris in May this year, during which they marked the 60th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties. He emphasized the challenges in today's world and expressed France's readiness to work closely with China to implement their mutual agreements, promote high-level exchanges, and strengthen people-to-people connections.

Xi urged for deeper strategic communication, stronger mutual support, and a steady progression in their bilateral relationship. He stressed the importance of contributing to stronger China-Europe relations and enhancing global peace and stability.

Macron reiterated France's stance on strategic autonomy and its willingness to engage in dialogue with China, with the aim of fostering strong economic ties, resolving trade issues, and collaborating on climate change, AI governance, and other global concerns.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, with Xi reaffirming China's consistent position of seeking a peaceful resolution and expressing China's willingness to play a constructive role in de-escalating the conflict.
