SEOUL, November 19 (AJP) - Russia warned on Monday that U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles supplied by the U.S. would "fuel the fire" of the war in Ukraine, further escalating international tensions.

"It is obvious that the outgoing administration in Washington intends to take steps, and they have been talking about this, to continue adding fuel to the fire and provoking further escalation of tensions around this conflict," the Kremlin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

Russia's state-run news agency TASS also reported the same day that Washington’s decision is "a very big step towards the start of World War Three," quoting Vladimir Dzhabarov, first deputy head of the Russian upper house's international affairs committee, as saying.

The latest decision allows Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles to strike targets in Russia.

According to the presidential office, the U.S. notified South Korea in advance of its decision, as it could affect North Korean soldiers being deployed in Kursk, a Russian territory occupied by Ukraine to fight for Russia’s efforts to reclaim the territory.

It comes amid the transition of power in the U.S., with incoming President Donald Trump, who has frequently expressed skepticism about continued U.S. support for Ukraine, expected to push for a quick deal to end the war as soon as he is sworn in January next year.
