SEOUL, November 7 (AJP) - President Yoon Suk Yeol phoned U.S. president-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on his election win, the presidential office said on Thursday.

During a telephone conversation that lasted about 10 minutes, Yoon congratulated Trump on his sweeping victory in Wednesday's election and discussed various issues including North Korea's recent troop deployment to Russia to support its war in Ukraine, Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo told reporters.

Trump expressed his thanks and hoped for "continued cooperation" with South Korea, particularly in the shipbuilding industry, where Seoul has cutting-edge technologies in warship and vessel construction.

The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of the bilateral alliance and agreed to "meet soon."

"As the two wish to discuss further, there will be working-level talks soon to coordinate schedules," said Kim.
