SEOUL, November 5 (AJP) - China on Monday appealed to the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the EU's final decision on countervailing measures targeting Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), China's commerce ministry said.

China firmly opposes the EU's move to impose high countervailing duties on Chinese-made EVs, despite opposition from EU governments, industry groups, and the public, according to a ministry spokesperson.

To protect the interests of the EV industry and promote global green transition efforts, China opted to escalate the matter through the WTO dispute settlement mechanism, the spokesperson stated.

This appeal follows China's earlier challenge to the EU's initial anti-subsidy measures against Chinese EVs, as noted by the ministry.

China views the EU's decision as lacking legal and factual grounds, violating WTO rules, and constituting an abuse of trade remedies under the guise of countervailing, the spokesperson added.

China has called on the EU to acknowledge its errors, immediately rectify its actions, and work together to maintain stability in the global EV supply chain and foster strong China-EU economic and trade ties, the spokesperson said.
