SEOUL, October 25 (AJP) - South Korea observed Dokdo Day on Friday, marking the anniversary of a royal proclamation asserting sovereignty over the easternmost islets.
North Gyeongsang Province established the observance in 2005 to reinforce South Korea's sovereignty over the rocky outcroppings in waters between Korea and Japan.
The date commemorates Emperor Gojong's 1900 imperial edict, which proclaimed the islands as part of Korean territory.
