Indian actor Anupam Tripathi senses surge in popularity after 'Squid Game'

SEOUL, October 24 (AJP) - Indian actor Anupam Tripathi, recognized for his role in the global sensation "Squid Game," recently expressed his joy over his skyrocketing popularity.

"The most interesting change has been the increase in my Instagram followers," Tripathi said in an episode of the South Korean online variety show "Romantic Foreign Workers," uploaded on Monday. Although he had around 3,000 followers before appearing in "Squid Game," he currently has more than 2.2 million.

Tripathi mentioned that he has played roles from various nationalities, including Indian in the movie "Asura," Sri Lankan in "Ode to My Father," Nepalese in "The Heartbeat Operator," and Thai in "Heart Blackened." He has also received offers from India and the United States.

He gained recognition for his acting as a foreign worker in South Korea, playing the character Ali Abdul in "Squid Game."

Born in New Delhi, he moved to South Korea in 2010 to attend the Korea National University of Arts, and he has stayed in the country since then.

"Squid Game," released in September 2021, was watched by more than 111 million households worldwide. The second season is scheduled for release in December.
