Xi meets Putin in BRICS summit in Kazan

SEOUL, October 23 (AJP) - Xi emphasized that China and Russia have developed a successful approach to their relationship, characterized by non-alliance, non-confrontation, and not targeting any third parties during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan, Russia on Tuesday.

He acknowledged the progress in China-Russia relations, highlighting several significant achievements. Xi expressed his hope for extensive discussions with Putin and other world leaders about the future of BRICS cooperation, aiming to create more opportunities for the Global South.

Xi said that the BRICS cooperation mechanism plays a vital role in fostering a fair and orderly multipolar world and promoting inclusive economic globalization.

Analysts pointed out that cooperation between China and Russia is crucial not only for the development of BRICS but also for addressing international crises and improving global governance.

China has made BRICS a key focus of its foreign policy and has significantly contributed to the organization's growth. Experts noted that China's economic strength provides opportunities for mutual benefits among members, and its commitment to multilateralism enhances the voices of Global South countries.

Xi arrived in Kazan for the 16th BRICS summit and was greeted at the airport by Russian officials, with guards of honor lining a red carpet and local youths in traditional attire welcoming him. A Russian fighter jet escorted his plane. Chinese nationals and students in the area gathered to greet Xi, some chanting "welcome" in Tatar, the local language.

Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said that China and Russia maintain close communication and coordination on major international and regional issues, actively aligning on topics such as human rights, global governance, and regional conflicts. This partnership supports both nations' development and is essential for maintaining international strategic balance and regional peace.

Experts believe that China and Russia are key to BRICS' growth, reinforcing the organization's ability to represent member interests in a complex international landscape. Ongoing collaboration between the two countries is crucial for promoting a multipolar world. Additionally, their partnership is increasingly important for finding political solutions to ongoing global crises, emphasizing the urgency of stabilizing bilateral relations and enhancing global governance.
