China condemns bombing of consulate-general in Myanmar

SEOUL, October 22 (AJP) - China strongly condemned the explosion that targeted its consulate-general in Mandalay, Myanmar on Monday.

At approximately 5 p.m. last Friday, an explosive device was detonated at a building belonging to the Chinese consulate-general in Mandalay. While no injuries were reported, some damage occurred to the premises, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry, along with the embassy and consulate-general in Myanmar, promptly activated emergency protocols to manage the situation, Lin said.

China lodged a serious protest with Myanmar, urging a full investigation into the incident, the swift apprehension of the attackers, and their prosecution under the law. Additionally, China called for enhanced security measures for Chinese diplomatic missions, institutions, and personnel in Myanmar to prevent future incidents.

In response, Myanmar expressed its shock and sorrow regarding the attack, assuring that it will take necessary actions to fulfill its obligations under international law to protect Chinese citizens and institutions.

The Chinese consulate-general in Mandalay issued a security alert, advising Chinese nationals, businesses, and organizations in Myanmar to stay vigilant, strengthen their security, and take precautions to ensure their safety.
