According to the Bangkok Post on Monday, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plan to provide 400 baht (about $11) subsidies to 10,000 visitors to these areas starting Dec. 1.
This initiative is part of a broader emergency response to support economic recovery in flood-affected regions.
Additional support measures under consideration include emergency loans for local tourism businesses, utility bill reductions, and tax deductions.
The government also plans to promote Chiang Mai as a hub for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism and sports events, while attracting foreign film productions to boost the area's visibility.
Chiang Mai, Thailand's second-largest city and a key northern tourist destination, recently experienced severe flooding that submerged major attractions and forced many businesses to close.
The Ping River reached record-high levels, and although floodwaters have receded, the city's full recovery is expected to take time due to extensive mud deposits.
Tourism, contributing about 20 percent to Thailand's gross domestic product, is crucial for the country's economy.
Despite a 30 percent increase in foreign visitors this year compared to the same period last year, with 26.6 million tourists as of Nov. 8, Thailand faces challenges in reaching its target of 36 million visitors due to flooding and the strong baht.
