About two dozen protesters from 11 same-sex couples argued for their rights to marry and pursue happiness regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
They argued same-sex couples should have the same legal protections and benefits as heterosexual married couples and called for the recognition of same-sex couples, allowing them the right to legally register their marriages.
Cho Sook-hyun, one of the legal representatives for the plaintiffs, said they are taking legal action, seeking to "address discrimination and promote equality."
The protesters also shared their personal stories and struggles they have endured due to their sexual orientation.
"We lead a life just like any ordinary couple, but the current law violates the principles of equality by failing to recognize our relationship, making us feel marginalized," said one plaintiff in his 30s.
"If someone asked me what's most important in life, I'd say 'family.' Like anyone else, I want my marriage to be recognized in this society because family means everything to me," he added.
