SEOUL, October 4 (AJP) - China's UN representative Fu Cong voiced urgent concerns over the escalating conflict between Lebanon and Israel at a UN Security Council emergency session early this week. Fu described the situation as "hanging by a thread," warning of potential uncontrolled escalation if provocations continue.

Fu's remarks on Wednesday came amid Israel's ground operations in southern Lebanon and Iran's missile strikes on Israel. He expressed China's alarm at the Middle East's rapidly worsening conditions, particularly in Lebanon, over the past fortnight.

The Chinese diplomat stressed the need to respect national sovereignty and territorial integrity, opposing actions that violate international principles. Fu backed the UN's stance that Israeli incursions into Lebanon breach Resolution 1701.

Calling for immediate Security Council action, Fu urged for a Gaza ceasefire and de-escalation between Lebanon and Israel. He cautioned against provocative rhetoric or actions that might intensify the conflict.

Fu drew attention to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and Lebanon, advocating for compliance with international humanitarian law. He also emphasized the importance of safeguarding UN peacekeepers in Lebanon.

Recent developments include Israel's ground incursion into Lebanon, resulting in Israeli casualties, and ongoing strikes in Gaza, as reported by AP.
