SEOUL, September 27 (AJP) - SK tes, a subsidiary of Korean environmental services firm SK Ecoplant, announced the inauguration of a battery recycling facility in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Friday. The plant, capable of processing batteries from about 40,000 electric vehicles annually, aims to strengthen the company's position in the growing European battery recycling market.

The facility, spanning 10,000 square meters, can produce up to 10,000 tons of black mass per year. Black mass, a powder containing valuable metals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, is an intermediate product in the battery recycling process.

"This plant in Rotterdam, a key European logistics hub, represents an important milestone in supporting the sustainability of the electric vehicle and battery industries," said Cho Jae-yeon, head of SK Ecoplant's environment business unit.

SK tes plans to expand its operations in Rotterdam with a second plant scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. The company, which operates recycling facilities in Singapore and China, aims to leverage its global network of 46 locations across 23 countries.
