During the hour-long meeting on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly on Monday, Kamikawa expressed "serious concern" about China's recent military activities, including the first reported intrusion of a Chinese military aircraft into Japanese airspace in August.
The talks also covered the gradual lifting of China's ban on Japanese marine products, which was imposed after the release of treated water from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant began in August 2023.
Kamikawa emphasized the need for measures against inflammatory social media comments, stating they are "directly linked to the safety of children" and "totally intolerable." In response, Wang described the Shenzhen incident as an "individual case" and said Chinese authorities would handle it according to law.
"We noted that some in Japan may be connecting this individual case with the so-called anti-Japan comments on Chinese social network and they have been magnifying and hyping up the safety risks. Such remarks are not consistent with the facts," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a press conference on Tuesday.
