The French edition of "Love in the Big City," released in August this year, is vying for the Prix Médicis, one of the most prestigious literary awards recognizing works of fiction annually in France.
Other included works are "Question 7" by Australian author Richard Flanagan, "The MANIAC" by Chilean novelist Benjamín Labatut, and a dozen others.
Since 1970, it has presented prizes to foreign literature published in translation.
First published in 2019, "Love in the Big City" is a collection of four intertwined stories about a young gay's love life in a bustling city.
Shortlisted candidates will be made available early next month and the winners will be decided about a month later.
Last year, Korean author Han Kang became the first Korean recipient of the award with her latest novel "We Do Not Part," which is based on the historical incident of a bloody anti-communist crackdown on Jeju Island in Korea in 1948.
