SEOUL, September 24 (AJP) - In a new development following recent confrontations, the Philippines has deployed naval and coast guard vessels to Sabina Shoal in the South China Sea. This move, announced by National Maritime Council spokesperson Alexander Lopez, aims to counter Chinese claims in the area.

The action comes after the withdrawal of the BRP Teresa Magbanua, which had been stationed at the shoal since May and was involved in multiple collisions with Chinese vessels in August. The ship returned for repairs and crew recovery after facing supply challenges due to Chinese interference.

This deployment reflects the ongoing tensions between the Philippines and China over South China Sea territories. It follows recent incidents near Scarborough Shoal and Second Thomas Shoal, where both nations accused each other of provocative actions and vessel damage.

The situation underscores the escalating territorial disputes in the region, with both countries persistently asserting their claims. China continues to demand Philippine withdrawal, while the Philippines maintains its presence in contested waters through coordinated efforts of various agencies.
