SEOUL, September 23 (AJP) - South Korea’s leading chemical company LG Chem announced Sunday it will supply cathode materials used in batteries to Prime Planet Energy & Solutions (PPES), a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corp. and Panasonic Corp. in Japan.

The agreement marks LG Chem’s expansion into the Japanese market, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026. PPES, a major battery manufacturer in Japan, supplies electric vehicle batteries to Toyota Motor and other global automakers.

While specific details of the supply were not disclosed due to confidentiality agreements, LG Chem said it plans to focus on developing innovative materials and process technologies that align with PPES’s low-carbon vision, aiming to produce high-performance batteries while minimizing environmental impact.

“Securing a supply agreement for PPES’s next-generation battery project is significant,” said Shin Hak-cheol, CEO of LG Chem. “We will continue to pursue global partnerships based on our differentiated products, process technologies, and supply chain competitiveness.”
