SEOUL, September 18 (AJP) - Samsung Electronics' smartwatch "Galaxy Watch5" was used for body composition monitoring research during the "Polaris Dawn project," the first civilian spacewalk mission, the company said Wednesday.
This research, led by the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, involved astronauts wearing the Galaxy Watch5 with advanced bioactive sensors to monitor human reactions and health in space environments, helping prevent risks related to muscle loss.
Unlike traditional body composition monitoring equipment, which is bulky and heavy, the Galaxy Watch5 offers easy wearability while providing accurate body composition data, according to Samsung.
Samsung also explained that the Galaxy Watch’s body composition monitoring feature analyzes various metrics, such as skeletal muscle mass, basal metabolic rate, and body water content, to offer a precise understanding of an individual's physical condition.
