SEOUL, September 13 (AJP) - Super Typhoon Yagi's devastating impact on Southeast Asia continues to escalate, with the death toll now surpassing 270. Viet Nam, the hardest-hit country, has confirmed 226 fatalities, 104 missing, and around 800 injured. The storm's aftermath has left millions struggling with flooding, power outages, and widespread infrastructure damage.

In Viet Nam alone, over 250,000 hectares of farmland have been affected, and UNICEF estimates that more than 140,000 homes across 26 provinces have sustained damage. The typhoon's effects have extended to neighboring countries, with Myanmar reporting 17 deaths and over 50,000 households evacuated. Thailand has recorded nine fatalities in its northern provinces, while Laos has issued flood warnings for the UNESCO World Heritage site of Luang Prabang.

The storm, which initially made landfall in Viet Nam on Saturday after passing through the Philippines and China, has weakened to a tropical depression. However, it continues to bring heavy rainfall to the region, exacerbating flooding and landslides. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, with concerns that the actual impact may be more severe than currently reported, particularly in conflict-affected areas like Myanmar.
