SEOUL, Sept. 2 (AJP) - Malaysian authorities have decided to suspend the search for an Indian tourist who fell into a sinkhole due to safety concerns, CNA reported.

According to the report, Malaysian authorities have decided to halt the search for the Indian woman who fell into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur and transition to recovery and rebuilding efforts. Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr. Maimunah Mohd Sharif expects that repairing the sinkhole and rebuilding the surrounding area will take about 3 to 6 months.

On August 23, a 48-year-old Indian female tourist, who was walking along a road in Kuala Lumpur with her family, was swallowed by an 8-meter-deep sinkhole. Shortly after the accident, excavators were deployed to dig around the sinkhole, and rescue teams used search dogs and robots with cameras to thoroughly search the area.

Despite these efforts, they found no trace other than a slipper. Divers were also involved, but a second sinkhole appeared just 50 meters from the first, creating extremely hazardous conditions, which led authorities to ultimately suspend the search.

The missing woman's husband and son reportedly visited the site before returning to India and performed Hindu rituals. The Malaysian government plans to discuss compensation measures for the family at a cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
