SEOUL, Sept. 2 (AJP) - Samsung Medison, a Korean manufacturer of diagnostic ultrasound systems, said Monday that it has finalized the acquisition of Sonio, a French startup specializing in ultrasound diagnostic reporting and AI-assisted diagnosis.

With this acquisition, the company aims to accelerate innovation in ultrasound imaging and reduce global healthcare disparities by expanding its AI solution portfolio.

Sonio's FDA 510(k)-approved AI solution, "Detect," evaluates ultrasound image quality in real-time, provides feedback, and automatically extracts optimal images. This technology improves diagnostic accuracy and mitigates skill gaps among medical professionals.

Samsung Medison said it will lead innovation in medical device accessibility and accuracy by combining its advanced technology with Sonio's AI solutions.

"We expect Sonio's AI solutions, which help provide high-quality medical services anywhere in the world, will greatly help reduce medical disparities in global diagnostic settings where there is a lack of medical staff skilled in image diagnosis,” Yoo Gyu-tae, CEO of Samsung Medison, said,

The acquisition has already yielded results, with Sonio securing an AI solution supply contract with the largest OB-GYN chain in the United States.
