SEOUL, August 30 (AJP) -Air China and China Southern Airlines each received their inaugural C919 aircraft in Shanghai on Wednesday, marking a crucial step as China's first domestically manufactured large passenger plane expands its operational reach to multiple carriers.

Air China has chosen an extended-range C919 variant, featuring a two-class configuration with 158 seats: 8 in business and 150 in economy. China Southern Airlines opted for the standard-range model, offering a three-class layout of 164 seats: 8 in business, 18 in premium economy, and 138 in economy.

Both planes boast customized cabin designs, including specialized seating and comprehensive power options, emphasizing passenger comfort and operational versatility.

The handover took place at the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) assembly plant in Shanghai's Pudong area. COMAC presented sales certificates and symbolic delivery keys to both airlines during the ceremony, officially transferring ownership of the aircraft.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued essential documentation, including nationality registration, airworthiness certificates, and radio station licenses, ensuring both airlines meet regulatory requirements.

COMAC has now delivered nine C919 aircraft to various customers. China Eastern Airlines, the C919's launch customer, reports satisfactory performance over the past 15 months, operating five regular routes and completing over 3,600 commercial flights, highlighting the aircraft's growing importance in China's domestic aviation sector.

The C919 is expected to have a promising future due to its versatility, advanced technology, and performance capabilities, coupled with China's expansive civil aviation market. COMAC continues to refine and enhance the aircraft.

China's civil aviation market shows immense growth potential. A COMAC forecast from late 2022 predicts that between 2022 and 2041, China will acquire 9,284 new passenger jets, including 6,288 single-aisle aircraft. By 2041, China is projected to become the world's largest single-country civil aviation market.
