SEOUL, August 30 (AJP) -Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Thursday, in Beijing for high-level strategic discussions. This meeting marks the latest round of communication between the world's two largest economies, with future engagements planned in commerce and climate sectors.

Experts suggest that both nations are seeking to prevent further escalation of existing tensions and aim to introduce practical elements to their relationship. Xi emphasized the global need for unity and progress rather than division and regression. He stressed that as major powers, China and the U.S. bear responsibility for global stability and development.

Xi reiterated China's unwavering commitment to a stable U.S. relationship based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutual benefit. He also reaffirmed China's dedication to safeguarding its national interests and fostering friendly ties between Chinese and American people.

The Chinese leader expressed hope that the U.S. would reciprocate by viewing China's development positively and rationally, seeing each other's growth as opportunities rather than threats.

Sullivan's three-day visit included meetings with top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi and Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission. This comprehensive engagement demonstrates China's sincerity in managing bilateral relations.

Following Sullivan's visit, trade teams from both countries will meet in Tianjin, China, on Sept. 7 for the second vice-ministerial meeting of the China-U.S. commercial and trade working group. Additionally, climate policy discussions are scheduled between U.S. and Chinese representatives in early September.

Jin Canrong, an expert from Renmin University of China, highlighted the importance of maintaining communication to prevent misunderstandings during the remainder of the Biden administration. He also noted the significance of upcoming international events like the G20 and APEC summits, where both nations' leaders may interact.

The article concludes by mentioning discussions between Wang and Sullivan about a potential meeting between the two countries' heads of state in the near future.
