SEOUL, August 29 (AJP) - Google's AI Overview is encountering issues in India, with problems identified in the Hindi translation feature and search result consistency.

AI Overview is a generative AI solution designed to improve search results and provide detailed insights using advanced artificial intelligence.

According to American online newspaper TechCrunch, the AI solution has been showing several issues in its Indian service, indicating a need for upgrades. Google recently expanded its AI Overview service to India, a country with over 830 million internet users, but issues with its Hindi-English translation service have led to inaccurate and awkward translations.

There have also been instances of incorrect answers being provided. For example, Neal Mohan, who is currently the CEO of YouTube as of February 16, 2023, was incorrectly referred to as CEO "until" February 16, 2023.

Concerns have also been raised about the quality of search results, with cases of incorrect information about Indian restaurants and citations of inaccurate articles from Indian news sites. It was noted that asking questions in English often yielded more accurate answers.

In response, Google stated, "Our tests show that the accuracy rate for AI Overviews is on par with other features like Featured Snippets. When issues arise, they may be the result of our systems misinterpreting web content or reflecting inaccuracies on the web — and we use these examples to improve, as we do with all Search features."

TechCrunch highlighted that the issue lies with the algorithms, not the source quality, and emphasized the need for better language handling and accuracy to attract more users.
