SEOUL, August 20 (AJU PRESS) - The pursuit of Instagrammable photos is leading vacationers into perilous situations on Korea's southern resort island, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province warned Tuesday.

Jeju, known for its volcanic landscapes and picturesque scenery, draws a large number of vacationers and tourists. Many are attracted to the island's numerous photo-worthy spots, often unaware of the hidden dangers lurking beneath the water's surface -- sharp rocks and underwater cliffs that are not visible from above.

The island's famous "Olle" trail, a 437-kilometer (271-mile) path connecting 21 routes around the island, is another draw for adventurers. This trail often leads visitors to secluded beaches and cliffs, which, while beautiful, can be hazardous.

Since last month, two people have died and one has been seriously injured while attempting daring jumps at beaches or piers, seeking the perfect shot.

"There is a significant difference in water depth between high tide and low tide in areas like piers and harbors. If you dive in headfirst without considering the tide, you could hit the shallow bottom and get injured," a Jeju official cautioned. He also noted the growing challenge of managing safety as lesser-known coastal areas gain popularity on social media.

In response to these incidents, the provincial government is considering holding a meeting with relevant authorities to discuss banning diving activities in dangerous areas such as piers.
