Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario Bros, said in a video release that the museum aims to highlight "Nintendo's commitment to manufacturing that places importance on play and originality." The company, which began as a playing card manufacturer in 1889, has been diversifying its revenue streams in recent years.
Exhibits will include some of Nintendo's earliest consoles, a shooting game with Super Mario characters, and installations featuring oversized controllers and ancient Japanese poetry. The museum's opening follows the launch of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka in March 2021.
Tickets for October and November went on sale Tuesday, priced at 3,300 yen ($22.60) for adults, with reduced rates for children. The museum's opening, initially planned for earlier this year, marks another step in Nintendo's efforts to expand beyond its core gaming business.
