Revenue increased by 5.2 percent year-on-year to 1.56 trillion won ($1.1 billion) for the first half of this year, the company said in a regulatory filing Wednesday. Operating profit surged 12 percent to 32.5 billion won.

Sales from domestic food service and distribution businesses rose 16.2 percent to 224.1 billion won in the April-June period, while operating profit surged 34.1 percent to 6.7 billion won.
Overseas, its U.S. operation saw revenue increase 15.7 percent year-on-year and profitability improve in the second quarter due to strong sales of tofu products and Asian foods, along with cost reductions stemming from increased local production.
The Chinese subsidiary reported a 22.7 percent increase in second-quarter revenue. In Japan, overall sales declined slightly due to the downsizing of low-margin products, which was offset by stable sales of tofu bars in convenience stores.
