Workers from the Philippines arrive at Incheon International Airport on Aug. 6, 2024. YonhapSEOUL, August 6 (AJU PRESS) - About 100 workers from the Philippines arrived in Korea on Tuesday. They are set to start working as domestic helpers in Korean homes next month.
Hiring them as maids or nannies under a program initiated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government aims to relieve difficulties faced by young couples who struggle to balance childcare and household chores.
These helpers who hold childcare certificates issued by their home country will undergo a four-week training which includes work-related skills, Korean language and culture to help them adapt to life in Korea. They will then begin their assignments in Korean homes on Sept. 3.
They will work here for about six months until February next year and receive around 1.19 million won (approximately US$904) per month for their four-hour daily service.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, around 400 households in Seoul have applied for the service, with priority given to those with children under 12, expecting mothers and families with multiple children.
"This program is part of our efforts to recruit foreign workers properly to meet the diverse needs of Korean households facing difficulties in raising children," said a ministry official.
